5 Common Misconceptions about Chiropractic Care
There are many different opinions regarding chiropractic care, some negative & some positive. Does it really benefit your health or is it just a quick fix when you're injured? Today we'll cover some of the misconceptions about chiropractic care and lay out all the facts for you, whether you decide to give it a try is entirely up to you.
Here are 5 of the most common things we found that are misunderstood about chiropractic care:
1. Chiropractic adjustments are painful
You've seen the videos online of people going to chiropractors and getting their bones and joints cracked. Loud pops & cracks are heard when the bone pops back into place and this is often accompanied by an expression of pain from the patient's face.
Many times these videos end there and not much is explained about what they really felt during the treatment. Well we're here to tell you that chiropractic treatments are the opposite of that, the loud pops you hear are just gas & fluids moving through your joints as you are stretched.
Not only are the treatments not as painful as some might make them seem, you actually feel relieved and relaxed when your joints are stretched back and properly aligned.
2. Chiropractic care is dangerous
Because so much of chiropractic care revolves around the neck and spine, it's not a surprise that some might consider it risky and dangerous. Theoretically, a crack in the wrong direction or improper form could lead to some nasty and sometimes severe consequences. This is why we strongly suggest that you visit a trained professional for these services.
Chiropractors are just that, they have spent many years studying & practicing their craft, so they know what is dangerous and how to perform these actions safely. Simply put, if you need a bone or joint fixed, do yourself a favour and go to a professional.
3. Chiropractic care is unsafe for children
This myth has been around for many decades that bringing your child to a chiropractor may stunt or disrupt the growth of their bones. We can see why this myth seems so believable, children's bones & joints are constantly growing and developing, making an adjustment could alter or impact their growth negatively.
This however, has been disproved by many studies showing that professional chiropractic care does not affect the growth and development negatively. In fact, there is research that proves that proper chiropractic care and frequent adjustments are actually beneficial to children. The younger the child, the greater the results will be.
4. Chiropractic care is not scientifically proven
It comes as quite a surprise that many people think that chiropractic care is not science. People often think that chiropractors are just people who know how to align joints and that not much science goes into the practice.
This could not be further from the truth, time and again studies have shown that chiropractic care is deeply rooted in science and chiropractors have a deep knowledge & understanding of how the human body and nervous system work. After all your nervous system regulates the entire body and also lives in and around the spine.
When the spine becomes damaged or misaligned, the nervous system loses it's ability to function properly, resulting in countless aches, pains, and regular problems.
5. Chiropractic care is expensive
Generally when the general public thinks of chiropractic care, they think of a huge price tag. There is a notion going to a chiropractor requires deep pockets. True enough, some chiropractors charge a hefty price for their services, but the vast majority are considered quite affordable for the average person and are not much different from expensive ones.
Visiting a chiropractor actually costs less than an routine medical checkup, and not to mention the prescribed medications do not come cheap either. It is a less invasive and personal form of treatment that comes with an abundance of health benefits. So you might want to consider visiting your chiropractor even if you are not injured to keep your body running at it's best.
Hopefully after reading these facts about chiropractic care you are in a position to make a more informed decision about whether you should schedule your next appointment with your chiropractor. Admittedly it might not appeal to everyone, but the health benefits are undeniable.
